Workstream 2 Cryogenics
Our goal is to build the highest power density HTS motor system possible, noting that the system includes both the HTS motor and all other ancillary components. To capture the benefits of HTS drive systems, the ancillary subsystems must be as small, light, and efficient as possible.
After the motor, the two most critical subsystems are the cryogenic system and the power electronic converters.
In Workstream 2 Cryogenic systems we will develop optimized mechanical cryocoolers, additively manufactured heat exchangers, and perform whole-of-system modelling methods.
